11 Surprising Things You Should Never Do Just After Wake Up
Every one of us has their own routine in the morning, some of us like to drink coffee, watch TV, go for a walk, etc.
But there are some habits that can reduce your productivity for the rest of the day.
Here are 11 things you shouldn’t do after waking up –
1. Hitting snooze:
Many of us are guilty of hitting the snooze button in the morning. But when we hit it, we feel guilty and stress for not waking up.
When we do wake up, we feel even more tired than before. All of these are ingredients for an irritating morning.
2. Check Social Media:
Everyone of us checks on the latest notifications when we wake up, but it is the worst thing to do.
You just woke up from a relaxing sleep, your brain needs to storm into the real world slowly and steadily.
When you check social media, your brain is bombarded with notifications, and it is under pressure straight away and your body becomes stressed.
3. Drink Coffee:
Our body has a natural alarm clock, which controls stress, works with your brain to control your mood, motivation, etc. It is called a cortisol level.
Now, if you drink coffee, it disturbs this level, and you go into a hyperactive mood.
It might be a good thing in the morning, but it comes crashing down in the afternoon.
4. Breakfast without protein:
Doctors always insist that we should never miss breakfast. This is because they supply energy for the rest of the work.
So, it is advisable to eat breakfast that is rich in protein as it has a high supply of energy. Otherwise, you will feel tired after a few hours.
5. Making your bed right away:
This is an odd one as you are instructed to make your bed before you leave the house.
But if you make your bed just after waking up, it is breathing ground for dust mites.
Dust mites thrive in moisture, and if we leave the bed unmade for a few while, it dries all the moisture out.
So, if you don’t want dust mites, leave the bed for a few minutes as it is.
6. Watch TV:
If the first step of waking up is to touch remote, then you need to reconsider this habit.
As we have already mentioned, the cortisol level, so when we hear the noise, the level goes up.
Our mind becomes confused about what to do next, and we wake up feeling very tired.
7. Leaving curtain closed:
It might be tempting to get ready in the dark to get used to the light slowly.
However, if you let some natural light let in. Your body clock will know it is morning and time to wake up, and slowly you will get in the groove to get ready for an exciting day.
Getting ready in the dark doesn’t give you this opportunity.
8. Twisting & Bending Your Body:
It feels good to stretch your body in the morning, but when it can be very dangerous.
During our sleep, our spinal discs expand, but this also limits the movement of the vertebrae and can cause the spine to stiffen.
So, when you stretch, you are putting your spine in danger of cracking.
9. Get straight to work:
When you wake up, our mind is filled with fresh thoughts and relaxed. It is unwise to put in under stressed or pressured situations.
Instead, you start by brushing your teeth, taking a shower, meditating, or casually thinking of what to do next in the day. Anything other than working is fine.
10. Check your emails:
Checking emails is part of your work, and if someone sends you a mail later night, it would be a matter of emergency.
So, by checking it, you are putting yourself under stressed and raising cortisol levels.
As we mentioned above so many times, it is not good to do so.
11. Don’t decide anything while being on the bed:
Bed is a place to rest, and when we wake up, you need to be calm and relaxing.
So, if you ponder on a decision like what to wear today or should you go on a date, it will disturb the natural cycle.
So, it is best to stay away from such a decision early on, and as you start with other activities, you can think about it.
Habits are hard to change, but if you try hard enough, they will change eventually.
Now not every morning will be a perfect morning, but it will be better than the ones before.
This is a good enough reason to change your early morning habits.
